History of the School (Don Bosco HSS,Vpet)

The school was started in 1964. It was a great pioneering initiative of Fr.John Med Sdb, the salesian provincial of the Chennai province. The initiative was realized by the valiant efforts of Fr.M.P.Chinnappar the parish priest of varadarajanpet and Fr. Lourdes the parish priest of Thennur. Fr.V.T. Sebstian sdb, the first Headmaster and Fr.Kuriakose sdb were the pioneers who started the school. The school first started functioning in the Alangara Annai church campus in July 1964 with six teachers and 203 students. From 8th December 1965 the school was shifted to sagayanagar(the present campus). A simple salesian residence was built and was used by salesians from 15th February 1966.

The school was recognized on 25th March 1965, on the marian day, once again confirming the blessing of our Blessed Mother Mary. The high school was upgraded into higher secondary school on 20-07-1981. Permanent recognition was attained on 14-09-1998. The association of past pupils was started in 1971. The Decennium celebration of the school in 1974 was marked with the blessing of the new Salesian residence on 21 November 1974, due to the tireless efforts of Fr. C. Jeganathan sdb and Fr.K.C.Philip sdb.

The Silver Jubilee celebration of the high school was celebrated in 1989 during the time of Fr. A. Packiaraj Rayan Sdb, the correspondent and Bro. Joseph Dass, the head Master. It was presided over by honourable minster Mr. K. N. Nehru. Computer education, intercom, sound system and infrastructure development like the Silver Jubilee block and social outreach activities were spearheaded from the year 1993 due to the contribution of Rev.Fr.Franscis schlooz sdb, during the time of Fr. S. Maria Arockiam sdb, the correspondent and Fr. V. Michael sdb, the head master.

The DB88 school building sponsored by Fr. Francis Guezou sdb added stability to the infrastructure. It was blessed on 07-11-1988 by Fr. Vincent Durairaj sdb the Provcincial, during the time of Archbishop Mgr. A. M. Chinnappan sdb, when he was the Correspondent and Headmaster of the school. In 1999, the school got the state second rank in the SSLC common examination, during the time of Fr. K. C. Francis sdb.

In 2000, when Fr. Vincent Sebastine sdb was the correspondent, the Savio Hostel started and managed by salesians for the need of the non-Christian students. The private hostels run by the lay people were stopped. In 2002, an outdoor stage was constructed in the playground area. The hostel was renovated in the year 2006. Toilets for the staff and students was constructed near the basket ball court by the help of APIS foundation. The Silver Jubilee celebration of the higher secondary school was celebrated in 2007 and Mr.Raja MP presided over the function.

In 2009 more class rooms and labs were added in the new building which was linked with the Silver Jubilee Block. The parallel English section was started on 19-08-2010 by Fr.Marcel Lincoln Sdb the correspondent and Fr.Amirthanathan Sdb the Headmaster. In 2011 the Sacred relic of St.John Bosco from Rome was bought to the school which was a historical moment in the history of the school.

The Golden Jubilee of the school was well planned and the systematic preparations were started by Fr. G. Benjamin Joseph sdb. To mark the Golden Jubilee extra class rooms were constructed mainly for the English Section in the Golden Jubilee block and the same was linked with existing buildings. With the new stage and additional gate the whole school building got a new face lift and got a new elegant setting. The Golden Jubilee of the school was celebrated in 2015.The Golden Jubilee block and the restructuring of the school building was realised through the generous contribution of the Rector Major, Fr.Maria Arockiam Kanaga sdb, Friends of Fr.Schlooz, Province of Trichy, Fr. Thomas Louis sdb the correspondent, Fr.A.Sahayaraj sdb the Headmaster, Staff, students, Past Pupils and well wishers of the institution. Another milestone in the history of the school was the setting up of the solar panels in the school

In 2017 the “Semman Makkal Iyyakam” was launched through the intiative of Fr.Maria Arockiam kanaga sdb with the help of Fr.Thomas Louis sdb, then the Rector and Mr.S.Pankiras to uplift the lives of the farmers in and aroung varadarajanpet. The long awaited NCC Group was officially started in the school.

In 2018 the new website for the school was launched with the great efforts and contribution of Mr.James Kennedy, one of our eminent past pupils of our school. In 2019 poor students scholarship was initiated by Fr.Maria Arockiam Kanaga Sdb. The same year school obtained a rare centum record result in SSLC and Plus Two, first time in the history of the school, due to the guidance from Fr.Francis Xavier sdb the correspondent and Fr.Sebastian Jacob sdb, the Headmaster.

The new midday meals kitchen attached with a dining hall, renovated drinking water facility with new taps and renovated Basket Ball Court with Synthetic boards were added to the infrastructure of the school in the year 2020. These developments were the fruits of the leadership of Fr. A. Francis Xavier sdb.

2020

On behalf of the DB green alliance movement an eco-friendly atmosphere is maintained. About 5000 Palmyra seeds were scattered on the banks of nearby lakes in Varadarajanpet, and about 100 teak wood saplings were planted in the DBHSS farm in the presence of Rev. Fr. Sebastian Jacob HM of DBHSS.

With the advice and guidance of Rev.Fr. Sebastian Jacob HM, the teachers of the school issued study materials to the students appearing for the public exam during the COVID period at the different places of this location.

As per the advice and recommendation of the district collector, teachers and non-teaching staff took the COVID vaccine.

2021

Online Classes were conducted by staff for the students.

The Ariyalur district collector made a visit to our school and planted saplings. Mr.Selvakumar, Joint director of the education department visited the school. In his visit he has recorded that, the school is well maintained with sufficient infrastructures.

2022

Online capacity-building training conducted by the Tamil Nadu government for the teaching staff of our school.

In 2023

In the month of December 2021, Rev. Fr. Agilan SDB Provincial of Trichy Province laid the foundation stone for the construction of the DB Past Pupils Resource Centre. On January 26 2023, the DBHSS Past Pupils Resource Centre was blessed and opened by Rev. Fr. Agilan, SDB Provincial of Trichy Province. The building worth of Rs.35 lakhs was constructed with the contribution of DB our pupils.

The Parents Teacher Association of DBHSS helped lay favour block bricks in the assembly area and along the path from the surround entrance to Salesian Residence. The project was completed at the cast of 25 lakhs.
