Varadhai Salesian mission has been participating in the growth of the locality through its various social services for 55 years. Though its main mission is educating the young, it reaches to all age people and their development. While providing education, it identifies the poor children and reaches them through scholarships. It also participates in the life of poor and suffering old and widows through Fr. Schlooz charity and gives them funds to meet their basic needs. It also reaches the poor farmers through Semman Makkal Iyakkam and aims to introduce modern way of farming and provide basic necessities for farming.

Salesian mission finds its joy by educating the poor and deserving children through various scholarships. We become part of the schooling of these children through Milan Scholarship (scholarship for the entire academic life) Spain Scholarship (scholarship for the entire schooling), Golden Jubilee Celebration Scholarship & Rector’s Scholarships & Fr. Maria Arockiam Kanaga Scholarship. Every year, we educate many poor children and bring happiness to many poor families.

Fr. Francis Schlooz is a great missionary of Salesian who had worked in Varadhai and got indelible mark in the hearts of poor people. His friends want to continue the work of charity began by Fr. Schlooz. Hence, through this charity, we reach out to many poor, old and sick people and give them medical assistance and funds for basic needs. We also organize a state level football tournament in honour of Fr. Schlooz once a year.

People who live in and around varadhai are farmers. Salesians who are educating the children of these farmers want to uplift their livelihood and hence this movement was started in 2018. It was initiated by Fr. Maria Arockiam Kanaga, Fr. Antony Joseph, Fr. Thomas Louis and Mr. Pankiraj. Its aim is to preserve the natural resources of the place, to produce and use natural manure for farming, to use modern technology in farming, to help people to receive the government aids and subsidies, to have value addition for their own products and to form a farmer producer company. To achieve the aim, the salesians have already organized a seminar on the use of technology in farming and had a meeting with ISRO Scientists. The movement also has hounoured Mr. Antony and Mr. N.A. Antony samy with “Semman Pathukavalar 2018” for achieving in natural farming. We helped people to visit Government Agri forms. With the help of our Semman Makkal Iyakkam, people from our locality have become members of CREED Krishi Vigyan Kendra, a company for oil seeds and cashew nut farmers. It is supported by Agricultural Engineering Department and State Agriculture Department and NABARD. We have distributed lots of saplings to them and instructed to protect these trees.
